The closing of the Sara Lee Pie Plant in Forest, Mississippi made it necessary to quickly transfer production to their Tarboro, North Carolina facility. The work included removing complex and delicate production lines from Forest, transportation to Tarboro and reinstallation in the plant.
In order to save time and protect the equipment a “Lean and Green” transportation method was selected, utilizing dedicated air-ride vans normally used to carry electronic equipment and exhibition displays. A dozen of these special vans – fitted with logistic tie down sockets – were used to “Open ship” rather than crate the equipment. This eliminated the time and expense required to crate and uncrate the items.
